Pea Stardust - Pisum sativum
In the tub, the soft, sweet shoots grow quickly and are perfect as microgreens, which can be sown and harvested year-round. If you let them grow into mature plants of 50–60 cm in a large pot or in the garden, they will produce small, tasty peas. Sow between February and June for this. Perfect for using
straight away in salads, on sandwiches, or in warm dishes, full of flavour and colour.
Place some pebbles or broken flowerpot pieces at the bottom of the tub for good drainage. Spread the compost evenly, keeping one tenth aside, and scatter the seeds. Gently cover the seeds with the reserved compost, press lightly, and mist with a spray bottle. Cover the tub with cling film and place it in a light, warm spot (around 20 °C), keeping the soil moist. Seeds will germinate within a few days; microgreens/peashoots are ready to harvest after about 14 days. Leave around 10 plants in the tub and transfer the rest to another pot or container. Want to grow the plants to maturity? After about 3–4 weeks, transplant them into larger pots or into the garden.
